Some businesses use a generic CRM and make their business fit into it. Why? Because in legacy CRMs, customizations can be complex, costly, and difficult to maintain. Insightly is a modern CRM. That means customizations are easy. Once you experience a platform that’s customized to your business, you’ll wonder how you ever got along without one.
Like most CRMs, Insightly comes with standard fields, like name, phone number, and email address, to store data. If you need additional fields above and beyond what’s available, you’ll want to create a custom field. Common examples of custom fields include billing ID numbers, contract renewal dates, project types, and referral information. You can even group your fields under their own expandable sections; we call them custom field groups, and they help you organize and order your fields into sections.
Use custom objects to collect, store and track data that does not fit in any of the Insightly standard objects (e.g. Leads, Opportunities). Your custom fields will appear on the left side of your Insightly CRM interface, making them easy to access.
For example, if your company partners with other businesses and resellers you could instead create a custom object called “Partners” and use it to store all current, former, or pending partner organizations and contacts filled with fields that pertain specifically to your partner network.
Insightly’s custom page layouts let you create a CRM interface that aligns precisely with the specific needs and preferences of different user roles. This makes it easier for all team members to adopt and navigate the CRM efficiently. Using custom page layouts, you can create views so that each user sees only the data and features most relevant to their role. As a result, you’ll enhance their focus, reduce clutter, and even help (along with role-based permissions) to maintain data privacy.
Insightly comes with dashboards that you can use out of the box, but you may want to create a custom dashboard to highlight specific data that’s vital to your business. You can create custom dashboards easily by selecting the data you’d like to display and the type of visualization that works best for it. You can allow your custom dashboards to be viewed by the whole team or keep them private to yourself.
In most cases, your team can create custom fields, objects, page layouts, and dashboards without needing a developer or an integration team to help.
A custom field contains data, and that data field can be one of many fields within a custom object.
It is best practice to have a page layout for every role in your organization. Some examples of roles that might have a custom page layout are sales development representative (SDR), account executive (AE), and sales manager.
